چکیده
Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We study numerically the evolution of an adiabatic relativistic fireball expanding into a cold uniform medium. We follow the stages of initial free expansion and acceleration, coasting and then deceleration and slowing down to a non-relativistic velocity. We compare the numerical results with simplified analytical estimates. We show that the relativistic self similar Blandford-McKee solution describes well the relativistic deceleration epoch. It is an excellent approximation throughout the relativistic deceleration stage, down to γ ∼ 5, and a reasonable approximation even down to γ ∼ 2 though the solution is rigorous only for γ ≫ 1. We examine the transition into the Blandford-McKee solution, and the transition from the solution to the non-relativistic self similar Sedov-Taylor solution. These simulations demonstrate the attractive nature of the Blandford-McKee solution and its stability to radial perturbations.

The general relativistic effects on spin-flavor oscillations above the core of type II supernovae are investigated. The evolution equation is derived and the relative magnitudes of the terms in the Hamiltonian, which arise from the weak, electromagnetic and gravitational interaction, are compared. The effects on the resonance position and the adiabaticity are studied. Explicit calculations are ...

We present a numerical study of the hydrodynamics in the final stages of inspiral in a black hole–neutron star binary, when the separation becomes comparable to the stellar radius. We use a Newtonian three–dimensional Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) code, and model the neutron star with a soft (Γ = 5/3) polytropic equation of state and the black hole as a Newtonian point mass which accretes...

We use the standard, adiabatic shell evolution to predict the size distribution N (R) for populations of SN-driven superbubbles in a uniform ISM. We derive N (R) for simple cases of superbubble creation rate and mechanical luminosity function. We then compare our predictions for N (R) with the largely complete H i hole catalogue for the SMC, with a view toward the global structure of the ISM in...
